2009 S40 D5 Auto
Back in May this year a squeak started developing when braking. The car had Brembo pads all round but when it went in for its annual UK MOT test I was advised front pads were low (no warning light on though) so I let the shop replace them to complete the test with a 'Pass'. Also got an advisory that front discs were worn, new discs fitted last month (Aug). However there has been a persistent squeak while running round town but noise disappears when D5 given some clog. There is an occasional screech when braking to a stop, (loud enough to make pedestrians stop and stare at the car!). I confirmed with the mech. who services the car that grease had been applied to new pads though the squeaking seems to be coming from the rear. The mech. has since stripped the rear brakes and greased and re-faced the Brembo pads (which had little wear as is usual with the back end) but still the very audible squeak persists - I should mention that as soon as the brakes are applied the noise stops bar the occasional screech coming to a full stop. Yesterday I had the rear pads replaced but it made no difference
