Default Automatic Shift cover plate...

The plastic piece for the automatic shifter which hides the metal parts (aesthetic) from the passenger compartment to underneath the aluminum console has broken off and I had to use pliers to pry the pastic piece out so I could shift the car from park to drive without the plastic getting caught up. Apparently, there is metal piece on this plastic cover that lets the transmission go from the "D" to "M" (manuel shifting). Without it, it wont go into manual shifting, as well as I can see inside seeing the metal pole shifter assembly. After hours of online reseach, I was unable to find the part online, nor do I know its "official" name. What is this parts name? Where do I find it? And how do I replace it? Any help is greatly appreciated! (2006 S40 Auto w/o Turbo)

Default Must be time for them to break

I had the same issue just today. managed to pull out the cover with pliers and am searching for the right part to order.

I found this site that shows how to perform the repair, but no part number! Any help is appreciated.

Managed to answer my own question - the part number is 30711361 and is referred to as a "shift boot" $75 special order from the dealer. Looks like about $50 online.

EDIT: I was given the wrong part number: 8699465 appears to be correct, and is just called a "blind" - cost $13.49

Awesome, how difficult was it to replace it? I saw the animated directions, but was wondering if you encountered any issues replacing it. Thank you!

Yeah, its called a shifter blind (like blinds for a window), and that's the correct part number. I did the replacement in about 45 minutes. Just remember when you're removing the shift **** to give it a very quick, very fast upward jerk. It wont come off if you just pull on it, no matter how hard you pull.

Good luck with it.
