Hi everyone I'm new to this site. I have a 2000 volvo s40 with 199,000 miles my brother gave me the car with 160,000 he was the original owner. I drive the car as a second vehicle it's in great condition untill the other day I drove it home and parked came out the next day started up fine put it in reverse backed up a little and then put into drive and was this really bad grinding sound and has the same sound in reverse now as well. I also tryed to move the car the other day in neutreal and could not push it at all??? Any help in this matter would be appreciated. I located a used trans with 35,000 for $300.00.

 

I would check the axles first.

 

Perhaps a record for the most mileage out of a 2000 S40!!

I could be way off, but maybe your emergency brake is stuck on.
