Default Ball Joints

I'm told that my ball joint has no play, by the left front wheel. The mechanic tells me he can't get the ball joint separately from control arm. I know it's a process to remove and install ball joints, but does this have to be an expensive job?

I just replaced both arm myself for like a $100 each so no it doesnt have to be expensive.Originally I meant to replace the bushings but sseing the price tag and whats involved to have it done it was a no brainer to get he whole arm.The car has 113k and the ball joints were still good but the bushings were both gone.I have read that it is possible to replace the joints but since you have to take the whole arm out anyway I dont see it as an effort I would do.

Thank-you. Talked with mechanic again who said lower ball joints only come with the arms. Plus he was talking about some stabilizer or sway bar link for the right side, cause left side was done already. So after talking to him again, and getting a better idea of what's going in, apparently there is too much play in lower left ball joint. And I can feel this, and I can hear this. It's slight, and mechanic says it's not emergency to fix. But I was trying to save a few hundred to smoother out the ride.
