Battery Buying Advice. Please help
I'm having a 99 Volvo S40 MK 1 2.0L Petrol sedan.
Currently I'm having a 12V 540CCA 72ah Battery and its dead.
My owners manual says 520 A(SAE) battery is the one needed.
So when I was looking for some batteries I found out a Bosch S4-005 gives 540A with 60ah and its pretty cheap too.
However its width is 30mm shorter than the current battery, which would leave away space at battery mount tray.
1) Since my battery mount is bottom-locked type. Which also means the battery locked to tray by two ends only. Is it OK to buy a smaller in size battery?
2) Does anyone use 60ah battery with S40
Thanks

I just bought a new 615CCA for my 2003 V40. I was going to go with an Interstate brand battery but for me it turned out that purchasing a battery directly from the dealership was actually cheaper, go figure.
You could probably make the shorter one work but I'm pretty sure that the hold-down bracket located on the bottom would not work, i.e. the shorter battery would not be held in by it. You would have to find a different way to secure the battery. I'm sure you could slam a few thicker style tie-wraps in there to hold it in place but honestly, why don't you just keep you life simple and find one that fits.

not sure about euro models but my S40 takes a size 48 battery (same as my VW and my ex 850). All fit with the posts in the correct place and a fit for the retaining bracket. The storage capacity will vary by brand/model.
