Default Brake Master cylinder rebuild kit.

Does anyone know of a brake Master cylinder rebuild kit for a 2009 S40 T5 AWD, automatic? If not could you recommend a good replacement Master cylinder? The OEM is too much money.

Now why I'm looking. Spongy brakes afer replacing the rear calipers. Bled all 4 brakes twice. Pedal still soft so reluctantly brought to dealership. They Bled the brakes and check the calipers operation and pedal still soft. Mechanic thinks it could be a Master cylinder problem. $1250 plus labor. Crazy, so I'll fix myself.

Thanks you!

From your description - "Spongy brakes after replacing the rear calipers"

How could this be a "master cylinder problem " if it only started after you replaced the rear calipers? - Why did you replace the rear calipers?

It's my son's car so it may have had spongy brakes before the brake work. I replaced them because the calipers were frozen.

my two cents is assuming the diagnosis is correct to just replace the master cylinder with a new part. You can get an ATE (OEM) part from FCP for $180, Genuine Volvo from Tasca for $310. That says all the cost is in the labor. I wouldn't trust a rebuild kit even if its available as those would just provide replacement seals and you'd still need to know how to inspect and hone any imperfections from the cylinder walls. You can find vids on Youtube if you are inclined to do the work yourself otherwise find a Volvo friendly independent shop which will save you about $250 off the bill (assuming you use aftermarket OEM vs Genuine). The $1250 estimate for the part alone doesn't sound correct but is what I'd expect for parts plus labor. You can go to dealer web stores to find the correct part number (there are some chassis # dependencies ) and to price the part.

Sound advice. I'll go with installing a new master brake cylinder.

Thanks again for everyone's input.
