Default Buying an S40 - Will I regret not buiyng a 2.5T?

Hi all...

As the title says, im looking at buying a S40 - At the moment im only looking at 2.5 Turbo models, however im starting to wonder if I should make that a requirement.

Is the 2.4i underpowered? Is there a huge discrepancy in get up and go between the 2.4i and 2.5 models? Enough to justify the extra price?
Will I constantly be kicking myself for getting the 2.4i instead of the 2.5?
Are there an abundance of (bolt on possibly?) aftermarket parts for the 2.4i to pull more power out of it should I feel the need for speed?

Thanks.

I'd go for the Trubo, your already wondering if you can make it faster and it's not even in the driveway yet. I always buy a car and then hate it later because there's a faster model available I should have bought. But the Turbo and save yourself the pain!

That's a great question! One that I posed myself. Although the power of the T5 is nice, I personally found its delivery rather non-linear and a tad unpleasant. I finally and just recently bought a used '06 s40 2.4i with a manual transmission, and I haven't regretted it at all. BTW: prior to the 2.4i, I owned a 2.0L turbo VW that was definitely quicker than the s40 T5, so I understand "power." In the end, I'm in no way disappointed with the 2.4i. Yes, it's a little slower than the T5, but I don't find that a problem ... it's got better manners.

But, you really need to drive both and get a feeling for each. And you probably should compare the auto to the manual while you're at it.

In the end it becomes personal preference. Best wishes on your hunt!

That is what tuning is for

That is what I am thinking.
You will never know if you like the car unless you take them out for a test drive. Push both cars to their "limits" and see what your reaction is.
