Default Cambelt change on S40 T5

So our car is a 2005 S40T5 so 20 years old now , had the belt only changed in 2009 after 80k the belt was still fine so was a preventative measure , then the car did little km
now 2025 car has 135km on and had a look at the cambelt and it had a lot of cracks on the outside so decided to change the belt, tensioners and the water pump , well after 20 years the water pump and both tensioners were great , amazing , but replaced anyway for a double overhead cam motor its good on the belt has anyone had it break ?

for most S40s, the timing belt service is 120K miles (195Km or so) or 10 years whichever comes first. So you were about 5 years over due! The service replaces both the belt and the tensioner - which can fail and take out a belt that looks ok. These are interference engines meaning if the timing belt does break or slip more than a few notches, you'd bend all the exhaust valves and possibly damage the head or pistons. Good thing you took care of it before that disaster! Yes belts do break, particularly for cars that were not well maintained or driven hard. The only other thing to do when servicing the timing belt is to inpect the VVT gear for any leaks. Next up on your car is to test the PCV system :-)
