camshaft reset valve
Hi, I have a 2003 s40. The check engine light has been coming on for the last year. The mechanic resets it and changes the oil. It stays off for about 3 months and comes back on. The first 9 years I had the car the oil was changed about every 5,000 miles - now it is changed about every 3,000 with valvaline 5w30. I've been told it needs a camshaft reset valve - but keep reading on line that will not fix it - could it be the timing belt. The car has about 80,000 miles. Thanks for any input.

What exactly is the trouble code? Have you had the timing belt replaced lately?
I've read of people who have issues where they try to clean the camshaft reset valve and that not working. Only a new one fixed the issue. If a new one doesn't fix the problem than that ain't the problem in the first place.
