have a 2002 volvo s40 turbo automatic transmission with 83,000 kilometres
- today while going to the border crossing from canada to the united states..huge lineup to cross..so was in bumper to bumper traffic for over an hour,,car was fine for the 1st hour and than still in traffic ,,car seemed like it wanted to cut out, and put transmission in to park and than when was time to move forward into drive..moved up and while idling the car stalled out ,,,at that point it did not like being in that bumper to bumber traffic, so we decided not to chance it and turned back home, and car ran fine...but what happened as the car stalled and the car wanted to cut out ...1st hour was fine in that incredibly slow moving traffic

Could be the fuel pump overheating.
Could be a bad fuel pressure regulator.

If you can get a fuel pressure guage to connect and watch the guage while driving and try to get it to act up and see if you loose fuel pressure when it acts up.

 

bring it in, u dont want to mess with a problem that big

was talking to a mechanic friend of mine about this issue
he asked was i low on fuel...which i was ..below the last line on the fuel gauge...he mentioned because i was low on gas that the fuel pump could not cool down......

have you heard of this...

because generally automatic cars do not stall out.... but if u were low on fuel then thats a whole different story

 

I agree very possible.

 

engine flooded, u gotta start the car again, and run it hard for 5 minutes, i work at a dealership and sometimes people leave their cars on and leave it in the parking lot and it dies and when they start it again it dies

what causes it is, ur engine doesnt use the total amount of fuel its recieving and that causes it to stall
