Default Catalytic Converter Brand - Difference?

My catalytic converter just died on my 2001 s40. Volvo wants $1,700 to replace, $1100 part, $600 labour (Canada). There is a budget exhaust place by my work that sells Catco brand exhausts at 1/5 the price.

Anyone have any issues or know if it really makes a difference? This is just my commuter car, but I don't want to install junk that will fail emissions or be really noisy.

I'm not looking for extra performance, just a fix.

If you want...you can get a universial cat or HIGH flow cat put on be a local shop.
And for the $1700 volvo wants...you could geta really, really nice custom exhasut and still have money left over.
