check engine light

s40 has 61,000 miles and has a rough idle and ride at times. I used 87 octane gas. Is this the problem or something else? The check engine light now is on.

You have to have the codes pulled first then take it from there.

I now changed the plugs (AUTOLITE DOUBLE PLATINUM), fuel filter, and put gas treatment and shell vpower. Still idles rough at times.

Could very well be a bad coil they are known to go bad.
