Default Check Engine Light

I've been experiencing issues for a time. The check Engine Light comes on, and the code indicates the variable timing gear for the exhaust cam is not working properly. The electronic sensor was replaced with no change. My mechanic then took the front of the engine off and viewed it, and the gear was in it's proper place. Next Seafoam was added prior to last oil change, yet the light continues to be lit. For a while it would come on, and then go off, but lately it's on all the time. All the while, the same code comes up.
I don't notice any difference in performance, but it is bothering me.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks, Bob

Yes, it's a known problem unfortunately. Usually it's the CVVT solenoid. Sometimes it's the actual CVVT gear with an internal failure.

Thank you, sorry it took so long, I'm rarely on the computer. The CVVT solenoid has been replaced, yet the issue remains unchanged.

has the timing belt been worked on recently? could be the gear is mis-timed or you may have a prob with the cam position sensor.

Or the VVT gear has failed internally. I always thought this the least likely but it has been reported more than a few times. And it's the worst one to fix. Both time and money.
