Default cold start problem for help

S40 2000, 60k miles on it

It will take 3-4 seconds to start the vehicle if I don't drive it for more than 3 hours. It is normal in the rest time.

What is the problem? will it be the leaking for the fuel pump? BTW, how much does it cost to fix this problem.

thanks and looking forward to your help

could be a few factors...check battery, plugs and if they're fine then more than likely its your fuel pressure regulator...search the threads for fuel pressure regulator problems...

thanks mcguij1

Is the Fuel pressure regulator problem a serious problem, should I change it immediately or wait for a while because I plan to trade in this S40 and get a new S40 at the end of this year.

Thanks

if its the fuel pressure regulator you might not want to wait, it can go on you tomorrow or in a month

I agree I would try to change it asap.
It is also easy to check remove the cover over the throttle.
There is a hose going from the regulator to the intake. Remove it from the intake side. If gas comes out or it smells like gas it is bad.

Thanks for your information. I asked mechanic a few days ago about the starting problem. He said it should be fine. I should go to check it again with your suggestion since it is not a small problem.

It is getting worse today, it will take 3-5 seconds to turn on the engine if I don't drive it for half an hour. Is that very serious? Will the leaking oil cause a fire? If yes, I am afraid to drive it and will ask mechanic to tow the car to check it.

Thanks

It won't cause a fire because the gas is leaking into the intake manifold. The absolute worst that will happen is it won't start at all because it is flooded with gas.
Which means to much gas to run.
