Hi I recently brought my first Volvo an s40 2.0t 1999 reg,

Firstly a couple of times I've had trouble starting it mainly when starting not long after I've stopped and have needed to pump the gas to get it start.

Secondly the steering makes a wheeerrring noise when turning at slow speed but not always.

Any help would be great,

steering problem check your fluid first and then post...as far as the starting problem, it could be a couple of things, most common would be your fuel pressure regulator...maybe tech can chime in, hes pretty good with this stuff...

 

My car used to not start the first try only after I got gas.....
I also had a evap leak code so I put in a new purge valve and it is all better now

 

I checked the PAS fluid today its fine halfway between min and max. I did notice today it was alot worse when I had the a/c running, dont know if that means much?

does it sound like a belt is whining?

 

Yeah maybe, what can I do to fix it?

I know it had new belts at its last service, could it be related?

 

Just been out in it again, the noise is more of a whine than a squeal and the steering seems to have got heavier...

 

if its whining its def something with your power steering...I would have a shop look at it...
