Default Crash Mode

Wow. This was scary for my Daughter this morning. She was driving her 06 S40 AWD when the car stalled. And the message on the dash showed, "crash mode". "Two or more safety features are disabled". She coasted to the side of the road. And called me. I said try restarting and get to the nearest dealer. She did, and made it to Ramsey Volvo. Being a female, she was told to come back in THREE weeks! "We are busy". This is a dealer with 2 Volvo dealerships. Well she broke down and cried not knowing what to do. She was also tired having worked 10PM to 6AM. Well the service writer relented and said leave it. She asked for a loaner car as she was now an hour from home. Sorry, no loaners available.
The book says do not drive the vehicle when this happens. I told her to call a tow, but she said no. I also can't believe that a dealer knowing this would tell her to come back in 3 weeks! A little background. Car was in at our home dealer, Ray Price Volvo on Monday. The ABS light had come on. They found 3 new programs for the cars computer and installed them. Car was fine for 2 days. Now this.
Anyone have any ideas? I called Ray Price, their techs have never seen or heard of this. They would research and get back to me. Tom

Not to side with the dealership as I dislike them just as much as the next person...

How old is she? If she is younger then 25 then a dealership will more then likely not give a loaner. Even at 25 sometimes they wont do it.

Wow can't believe no one has ever seen or heard of this. Well, the dealer not only diagnosed the problem. They had the parts overnighted. Volvo dead lined the car due to the seriousness of the problem. The harness in the steering wheel sensed (erroneously) the car was in a crash with airbag deployment. When this happens, the fuel pump is shut off. So that seems to be the problem. She picks the car up any minute. Tom
