Default Dangers of Leaving Camshaft Reset Valve

I took my 2001 S40 into the shop 4 months ago with a CEL and they mentioned I needed to replace the camshaft reset valve. I decided to try switching to synthetic oil as I've heard the oil additives could clean the valve and the problem will solve itself.

Anyone know the dangers of not fixing this problem? The car still seems to drive fine with no problems in the last 3-4 months.

Also, if I were to fix it, does anyone besides the volvo dealer sell a new valve (or a VVT valve...as I'm assuming the CRV is in the VVT unit).

You could run into driveablity problems down the road which could lead to more bigger problems. The check engine light also will be on all the time with DTCs for engine misfire. The best advise is to get the solenoid and the unit (pulley) replaced if you plan on keeping the vehicle. When you are replacing it go ahead and do the timing belt as well. Good luck.
