Default dashboard replaced or not?

I am having the replace the passenger's side airbag on my 2002 Volvo s40. It burst through the dashboad during a fender bender.

I already have the passenger side airbag replacement. I am just wondering if I have to replace the dashboard. It seems that a better idea would be to fix the tear in the fabric left by the airbag.

I have seen so many commercials on youtube that seem to do a good (enough) job on torn vinyl repair that maybe I do not need to replace the airbag.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

VIDA says to replace the dash. You know that is for liability and reliability. My question would be will the airbag deploy correctly the next time with your repair? Would you trust your repair to save your wife? Your child? Yikes, heavy thoughts.
