Default Don't know whats wrong with My 2001 S40

Hi Everyone-

One day I went out to start my car and it wouldn't start, so we jumped it and it started I drove it around for just a few mins and it was fine. The next day it wouldn't start. Sunday we jumped the car and it started and I was able to drive it all night. I took the car to our local O'Reileys and they tested the battery and they said the battery was good but the alternator was only sending out 30 amps (not sure if that is good or bad). I was told my fan runs after the car is turned off. I drove the car yesterday (however I noticed the temperature on the car kept raising then would fall back to normal). Well, I went out to start the car just now and it almost turned over, and now I can't get it to start.

Any ideas?

Alternator should be 120 amps. If the battery is weak and the alternator isn't functioning right, it can cause a lot of issues.

How is your coolant level? The temp rising and falling makes me think the coolant is low.

The fan running after the car is off is also a symptom of a bad MAF sensor, however, you would normally get a check engine light too. Also a bad thermostat or coolant temp sensor would normally set the check engine light and store a trouble code.
