Default Gear shift indicator lights out on center console

Hi, I haven't been here for a while, and tried searching the forums for this issue, yet without luck. I have a 2000 S40, and the gear shift indicator lights in the center console no longer work. How to I remove that center panel to get to the light(s)? I have that fake wood trim there as well.
Thanks for any help...

Pull up #1 rubber pad. Depress tangs on #2 and lift out. This exposes the shift mechanism, locking solenoid, and shift light. The light is kind of difficult to reach with big hands but it's doable. I replaced mine with a close enough bulb from the auto parts store. The dealer part is a bit more expensive.

Spray the locking solenoid with a good lubricant while you have it open. The solenoid tends to get gummed up with spilled drinks from the cup holder above. This causes the problem where the shift button won't pop back out which causes the ignition key to be stuck in the ignition.

Huh, not as easy as the illustration indicates. I can find anyway to remove the ashtray assembly, and am assuming the rubber tray is beneath that.

The rubber piece is under the radio. It just sits there. Nothing holding it down. It's the #1 in the drawing. #2 is the part with clips to depress and lift up.
