Default Driver headlight works part-time

2000 S40. My daughter headlight is working part-time. My husband replaced the bulb and still part-time. She got a TICKET two night ago. Cop would not give her a warning. We took the car to the dealer today for oil change/maintenance and asked them to check it while it was there. They found that her signal light was blinkng fast because of burned out wiring. They replaced the wiring and said it should also cure the headlight problem too. Well it was on when we left the dealership and it's off now. Any ideas of things we can check. My husband is planning to take it back to the dealership.

Check the wiring to the Headligth bulb.
The plastic is known to break. Then the wire will not clip on all the way causing the intermitent failure.

I had a similar problem with my headlights. Check the connection that powers the headlight. I believe their are three prongs in there. Mine had one of the prongs bent so it wasnt clipping in right and the light connection was not always complete. It sounds like you have almost the same problem.

After a return trip to the dealership, we were told she needs a new headlight assembly. We bought this headlight assembly a year ago after a large rock broke the headlight. She was traveling to Houston and a rock hit the headlight making a large hole. Throughout that epsisode, the light worked even though there was a hole in the beam. As the light would cost $238 for the part and $150 to install do you have suggestions to purchase and how hard is it to replace on our own?

its farely easy to install. The head light has 4 screws holding it and you would also have to remove the side marker light. A little wiggling and pushing down on your bumper will get it out. I defienetly would not spend $150 for the install. You can purchase the headlight on ebay for about half the price including the shipping.

So do you think the headlights on ebay or some of the other after market lights are okay? According to the dealership, the reason we're buying a new light in a year is that the headlights on the internet are not as good as the lights purchased from the dealership. Also, the parts guy suggested my husband try pushing the wires in tight and sealing with exproxy. He tried this and it still works part-time. She heading off to college and we've already paid a $134 ticket for a burned out headlight, so can anyone suggest a good reliable site to purchase the headlight.

www.myswedishparts.com has the headlight for $190. Its a little cheaper, and its going to be a genuine volvo part.
