Driving Technique
Maybe this question has been asked before or might sound stupid but, We have a 2001 S40 for a second car and this is out first turbo car. Are we suppose to drive a turbo car a certain way or different from a Non-turbo car. Our S40 is automatic and not manual shift. I would like to know so my wife won't step into the turbo like my father in law was saying.
The same way for both cars.
I would reccomend if she really Beats it hard and uses the turbo alot then when she parks it leave it idle for a minute or 2 to cool the turbo down.

Do these cars have turbo timers? (whereby a water pump continues to pump coolant on the turbo?) My old '86 Porsche had it from the factory and very few turbos failed as a result of heat soak coking.)
You do have to allow the car to warm up a little before you jump into the throttle.

It is good that these cars have an intercooler.
The intercooler cools the air after the turbo. The turbo compresses the air which in turn heats it up. The concept is that the cooled air is denser and you end up getting a better air charge in the engine. (aka more power)
