Wife called yesterday. Car had quit coming off an exit ramp from the freeway. Would start, run up to a fast idle, and quit.

When I arrived I found I could keep it running by staying on the gas. I could hear a vacuum leak. Investigating under the hood I found that the semi-rigid plastic line that runs from under the master cylinder to near the right side of the fuel rail had popped out at the fuel rail end. I plugged it back in and the car ran fine. Drove it 30 miles home without issue. I did tie the line down with a zip tie to discourage it from coming loose again. The line has a brass fitting that slides into a plastic clip.

Two questions:

1) What's the line called (part # anyone)?

2) Is it's popping loose age related, or a symptom of another problem?

Does it connect to a plastic switch that is connected to the master cylinder? The plastic switch also has another line coming off of it?
To me it sounds like it's the vacuum hose. I'll give you the part numbers, it will depend on what the last 6 numbers(aka chassis number) of your VIN are.

Part numbers are as follows:

chassis number -685753 is PN 30616993
chassis number 685754- is PN 30620958

You can call your local dealership parts department and see if they have it in stock(I do). Run down and confirm that's the line. The plastic clip may be broken which should be a cheap fix. If its the line itself it can be expensive. Let me know if this helps :-)

 

That sounds about right. It connects to a plastic switch on front left side of the brake booster canister. The switch also has a rubber line that branches off to the right.

It's the other end that popped loose. I checked the plastic retaining clip and its intact. Short on bailing wire, I used a zip tie to lash the line down so it can't back out again.

You're not kidding on the hose pricing. Pretty proud of a bit of plastic tubing.

 

How did you solve the problem with your brake booster hose? I have the same problem. The end where the hose is inserted into the intake manifold has come loose. The brass part has detached from the hose. So the brass part is still in the intake manifold. How do I attach it to the hose so it is solidly connected.
