Engine Warning light suddenly on
Hi,
I have been driving my 99-2000 S40 2.0 T SE daily for the last few months and have had no problems whatsoever. It has recently been serviced and successfully passed its MOT.
However, today after around 45 mins of driving, I stopped at the bank, got back in the car, started it up and the engine warning light was on.
There has been no noticable loss in performance (perhaps a little less economical but I put that down to rising petrol prices) and the car seems to be driving as well as it ever has.
Is there a simple explanation for this? I have read about the pressure build up that's resolved by loosening the petrol cap and am hoping against hope that this is the problem, but why now after several months?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for the response ... I figured that might be the case.
However, I have managed to get rid of the light. I went for a drive round the block, turned off the engine while driving, engaged 3rd and bump started the car. Since then, no light!
I am guessing it was related to the petrol cap / pressure readings.
Will see how it goes...

I have a 2000 s40 and hve only put about 150 miles on it since purchase. Ilet my wife drive it to work and now my lite is on too. I am taking it to a dealer today if it does not clear itself out.
As tech said you need to take it to volvo and have the codes read. It could be something very simple or something a bit more complicated. Your volvo dealer will be happy to print out a list of the trouble codes on your car.
now all of a sudden,my temp gauge goes haywire, up down,up down, and then my car decides that it wants to overrev....it runs a constant 2000+ rpm's, and if i let it go will do 60+mph on it's own. help. it goes into the shop tuesday
where can we get a good temp sensor? does it have to be a dealer part? my next question is what kinds of things happen when the p0128 code comesup. will the car run rough at all?
Cooling Fan might run all the time,Idle might Rev high,Cooling fan might not work,A/C might not work.
Not sure where else to get but at the Dealer.

got my baby fixed yesterday. everything is good. Volvo said it is not a drivability issue, don't beleive it, all the problems i was having in my earlier post were of direct relation to that sensor. get it fixed as soon as possible, dealer prices run above 200$ for replacement and parts
