erattic reving of engine

for some unknown reason my engine management light came on today, and the engine keeps eraticly reving up and down on its own, any ideas guys.

its ok i found what the problem was, tiny little pipe that had come off the air fillter box, all that problems for a stupid pipe no fatter than a straw

I am sure you have, but incase you didn't, you can clear the engine code at a local autozone for free.
