First gen S40 turbo project - massive boost wanted
Hi folks,
Long time reader first time poster here. Recently picked myself up a tidy first gen S40 with the 2.0L I4 powerplant and 5 to the floor manual.
Not real impressed with the "go" I'm getting from the loud pedal so would like to turbocharge it into the middle of next week. I'm talking massive boost and BIG power - ideally something in the 500-600 HP range (at the wheels, not the flywheel).
Realise this might result in a piston going through the side of the crankcase but, you know, when the heat is on in the kitchen, you gotta keep cooking.
Not real clued up on what my options could be but definitely know how to hold a wrench. Expecting to do the install and engineering all myself.
Keen to hear what experiences people have had boosting their S40s.
I also have a spare S40 2.0L I4 engine hooked up to a jig that I can operate as a test bed so there is some scope for experimentation.
Well there were a couple of guys on this forum from Sweden who had 420HP on the engine and was beating supercars badly. This car is light you dont need more than that power and frankly the engine is not up to more either. You are looking at a major build including H-beam rods, valve and complete head work, and sharper cams, stand alone management. If I would be into cars would just drop an Evo3 engine with a complete drive-train in there and call it a day with a wide body.Front wheel drive with that much power is absolute pointless.
