Flapping Noise While Braking
I have a 2001 Volvo S40. Early last week I noticed a flapping type noise while braking. Also noticed that vehicle was pulling to the right very badly. Stopped and aired up my tires and the pulling went away. However, whenever I brake, I still hear the flapping type noise. It starts out loud and fast and while braking it gets quieter and slower.
My husband usually diagnoses our vehicle problems but he just had back surgery and can't get into my vehicle right now. I am scared to drive my car and can't get it to the shop until my son comes home from college sometime in the next week or two (he plays baseball during the weekend at college). Any thoughts of what it could be would be greatly appreciated.

Does the steering wheel shake when braking? If so it is likely a warped front brake rotor. If the steering wheel does not vibrate then it may be a rear rotor. Other possibilities are poor quality brake pads or oddly worn tires or other worn brake components. Also, make sure the lug nuts are tight. I believe the spec is 81 ft-lbs.
