Hello Gurus,

I bought a used AC compressor to replace my current one as the bearing and pulleys are screeching. I was told it was cheaper to just change that compressor rather than trying to change the pulleys. So I paid $135 and it came from a a vehicle with 40k miles (it was a 2006 V50 2.4i and the guy told me it would fit my 2005 2.4i).

When I got home, I took a look at the compressor and it has a green sticker with Ford Motor Company on it. I plugged the part number on google and came up with Ford Focus.

I call the person (very nice guy) and he tells me that Ford owns volvo and i shouldnt be surprised that volvo's have Ford parts. Could that be accurate? I'm attaching a picture of the label found on the compressor. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks !!!

 

I believe I just answered my own question.

Further research for Ford part number : 3M5H-19D629 came up with these results:

AUTO AC COMPRESSOR

Ok I'm answering my own thread but that's ok for the greater good of the forum.

So I knew the VIN number where the used ac compressor was taken and it is a 2006 V50 2.4i.

Next step I called the dealership and they confirmed that the 2006 V50 and the 2005 S40 use the same exact compressor since on their system it lists the same volvo part number for both vehicles when it comes to the AC compressor.

Problem solved. I will post the result after install on saturday. I'm also having the power steering pump changed. Loud whining noise.

Ok compressor finally went in today and works like a charm. The previous compressor had bad bearings and was doing this grinding sound.

Now onto the belts, mine are making like a screeching noise that initially I though was another pulley. But the mechanic seems to think it's the belt.

 

Since you've got it out... What's the number on that bearing?
It is replaceable.

I dont have the old compressor with me. But It was cheaper to just get another used compressor for $100 than trying to fix the bearing. I wasn't charged for a core price. MY mechanic just tossed the old compressor in his dumpster.
