Unhappy G1 vs G2 S40 – advice needed

Hi All,
I just got into an accident with my ’01 S40 - Poor thing. The front left is pretty damaged (radiator, bumper, hood, fender, but at least the airbags did not go off). I was OK of course (love Volvos). But damage is very likely over write off value. I’ve kept the car in good shape (new timing belt, front shocks, brakes, catalytic converter, front table, tie rods), so am strongly debating putting in 1-1.5k$ of my own cash to get it fixed especially now it will have a new radiator. The other choice is take the insurance scrap offer (don’t know it yet) and get a 2005 or 2006 S40 T5 (or T5 AWD). How does reliability on these cars stack up to the G1 S40? What are common problems? I know my S40 had mostly suspension issues (Quebec roads), but was pretty good otherwise (barring thermostat problems). I’ve heard of “mixed” reliability on the S40 T5s/AWD, so am a bit worried.

Thanks so much!
