Gas cap door not secure
I just notices today on my 2002 Volvo s40 that that gas cap door is no longer secured when I lock the car.
One can easily open it with just your hand and nothing more. How do I fix this?
The price of gasoline mandates that this be fixed.

According to my owners manual my 2001 should be locking up as well. It definitely isn't. I would like to know what the fix is. Heck when I purchased this car the stopper tab was bent so the door appeared to be recessed. I fixed that assuming the lock would re-align and work again..but that didn't work out quite as I had hoped.
Yes, my 2002 Volvo s40 has always had a gas cap door that locked. It is not working now. It is very easy now to open the door with just one hand.
How do I fix this? I would prefer not to have to get a new gas cap door.

Hmmm. I looked through VIDA for a 2002 s40, and I can't find the R&R steps for the gasoline cap release motor. My 2006 V50 definitely does have an electrical release.
I would assume either the release motor is faulty, or the cap latch is not engaging your existing release latch. Is there ANY sound near the cap when you hit the release button on the dash?

I'm afraid that is a trunk latch motor. It seems like the 2002 doesn't have a remote lock:

I think on my Volvo s40 (2002) that the door latch on the door is broken and the cap is not holding on. I believe there is no motor. I lock the car and the gas cap door is very secure - when it works. Is there a picture of the cap door with the metal piece that latches the door down?
If so then please provide link.
Thanks in advance.

I got the same part number for the gas door lock as I do the trunk lid lock. I also checked an S40 we had sitting out back. It has a rod that actuates and locks it. From what I can tell. This S40 has seen better days,so Im not 100 percent on it.
I can say with 100 certainty that I have never sold a gas door lock for an old style S40.
