My friend has a 2002 S40 with about 134,000 miles on it. A few days ago when his wife started the car all the idiot lights came on at once and the speedo and tach were dead. The car ran normally. After about 10 minutes or so everything functions normally. During this lag period the gauges twitch once in a while. Any thoughts on the cause?

 

Most likely there is a bad connection somewhere. It might be a loose connector or wire. But there is the possibility that the instrument display has an internal fault.
