Hi, s40 2008 2.4i owner, I've been dealing over the past 3 years with a rattling noise coming from the passenger side, my dust shield has a crack but I don't know if that could be the reason or maybe the caliper is loose. Has anyone ever bought generic caliper pins?

 

can you feel any looseness in the caliper or checked the guide pins? how loose is the dust shield? did you also check things like the turbo/exhaust heat shields? personally I wouldn't worry about generic vs Volvo for the pins, I think the question is whether they are worn or installed correctly. Even a $6 Autozone part would fix that issue. You may want to shop around for replacing the shield - part # 30778890 - Tasca shows for $41...

 

I've checked the caliper and It's not loose at all, the guide pins looked fine also but I'll change them anyways. Thanks for the heads up, 41 bucks for the shield seems like a great deal! I'll keep you updated once I replace those pieces and hopefully resolve my problem
