Talking Grinding noise left front end

I drive a 2007 s40 manual 2.4i. Had suddenly heard a grinding/screeching noise on my left front end. I thought, "oh no." And, it was only prevalent when I turned right. Anyway, I thought it would require major work and money to fix the problem. I jacked up the front and took off the tire to see if there was anything peculiar. I saw just behind the brake drum a somewhat thin and somewhat flexible flange with a quarter inch space. Lo and behold, I saw a small pebble jammed in that space. Took it out. Reassembled the tire and crossed my fingers. Yippee, no more grinding noise. Quite a relief.

that sounds like your wheel bearing, if that little pebble is out, that means the bearing is shot! Change it before it gets worse, and you are stuck on the road

The bearings are not pebbles. A pebble got stuck between the rotor and backing plate. No need to replace anything.
