Default Headlight issue

2003 Volvo S40

Yesturday I was driving and noticed my right front low beam when out suddenly, thinking is was just a bulb I replaced it this morning. Hmm, no luck. Moved onto fuse- fuse was good. Test volts at lamp connection- read 12v.

Lamp still not working??? Any suggestions???

Thanks

checked the harness connection at the lamp. any suggestions on how to access the interior of the light housing? i noticed there are some clips on the light holding the lense to the housing, can I take those off for access? or should i remove the light housing and access another way?

thanks

You should be able to unplug the bulb and pull some of the harness out and check it. Lately I have seen the insulation fall apart and short the wires out.

I'm having the same problem. I replaced the entire headlight assembly to no avail. The light seems to work when the temp is below 45 degrees. It's driving me crazy so please share a fix if you find it.

I have a 2000 s40 1.9 Same issue. Passenger side front headlight out. Replaced bulb but lampstill out. Checked the voltage at the light and therewasn't any. Fuse good. I do mostof the work on my volvos except for electrical issues. Took the car to the dealer (I hate to do that ). They had to replace the CEM(I believe thats the Central Electronic Control Module)$500.00.

Crazy to spend $500.00 to fix a head lamp. Sent a complaint to Volvo of northamerica and they gaveme the standard answer and sent me a coupon (20% off next service).

Anyway ,Iknow that may not be good news but thats what my fix was.

Good luck.

The module you are referring to, is that the same as the ECM they are selling used on ebay for $80-150?

What is involved in changing the ECM out?

Also, do not know if it is at all related but this morning my battery was dead. Typically never have any issues as I am up to date with all preventitive maintnance. Could this just be acoincidence?

Well my windshield wipers are screwy, which I've been told is the CEM too. I guess I need to get ready to drop $500
