Default Headlight... Strange problem.

Hi,

My low beam went out, so I replaced the bulb. No go. It was still out.

So, I checked the voltage, It showed I was getting volts. So, was the bulb bad? I checked the bulb by putting it in the high beam, no problem, it works.

So, If I checked the voltage with a bulb... Now it shows no voltage.

Is this a relay problem? Where is the relay?

This guy had the same problem. Voltage present.

Seems it is the CEM. He plugged in a new one and it worked without VADIS dealer software, so I think I will try it. I report back in a week or 2.

Larry...would be interested in your report. The female connectors on the Volvo S-40 headlamps are crap.

The CEM replacement fixed my problem. I got one from EBay, plugged it in, and everything was golden. No software to mess with.

It was the relay on the board. I wanted to see if I could fix the old one, tracked down a replacement relay and that one worked.

I have the CEM for sale on EBAY now.

I should mention that replacing the relay on the CEM requires circuit board work. Desoldering a 5 pin relay and replacing it.

Default CEM cost.

I got one on EBAY for $99 shipped (used).

Shameless plug:

I do have the CEM I used while fixing my old one on EBAY now for $98. I guarantee it will work (or your money back). You have one day It is a 10 minute job to switch them (Under the dash on the left side of the driver).

3 screws and a number of plugs.

EBAY Item number 321028935068

You might get a better price at a junkyard, I have heard people got them for $75.
