Headlight Wiper Blade Issues
Hi All,
My wife's S40 has been having issues with its passenger side headlight wiper. Once in a while it will get stuck straight up in the air. It won't go back down when I try to force it, or when I run them. She will drive the car to work and when she gets back, it will have returned to its proper position and will be functioning properly. Tonight I noticed that it had rotated up so far that it put enough pressure on the rubber hose to break the plastic piece that attaches the hose to the wiper. Has anybody else run across this issue, and is there a fix. FYI - The car is a 2001 and the warranty is up.
Thanks

Same thing here, I just dont have time to look at it. let me know what you find out. Should not force them (i dont think) My problem is similar but the passenger side just doesn't move at all. then when i look at it it works
Do you think that the motor is bad, or is it a loose connection somewhere? What gets me is that it works just fine most of the time. It is probably a loose connection within the motor that cannot be fixed.
Do you have any clue what it might take to swap out the motor? I would like to do it myself since the warranty is up and I am trying to save money for an exhaust for my S60 T5.

I still think it is a bad motor. What usually happens is the wiper arm guts under the stop. Then the motor is activated and the Gear inside is broke.
I haven't had to do one on an S40 yet. But usually it isn't that bad to do. It might be easier to remove the Headlight to do it. If you decide let me know and I will tell you how to remove the Headlight.

Will do.
Thanks for the info, Tech.
BTW...I am sure you get this a lot, but why do you have Mustang as your Avitar? Do you even own a Volvo, or just know a lot about them?

I had a similar problem with my 2001 s40. If the car is left for a little while and and the ignition is turned the blade will move a little bit and after several attempts at turning the car on and off the blade will return to the normal position. This is a temporary fix so you dont have to drive around with it sticking up in the air. But ultimately the motor will need to be replaced. It was rather costly and you might find that you do not need this option anc could probably just disconnect the motor. I however cannot stand to have something on my car not working properly and chose to pay $400 or more just to have that fixed. The part itself is about $200 plus the labor. I think the dealer said they had to remove the headlight to do it.
