Default HELP! - Replacing timing belt

I need some advice. My sister has a 2000 S40 with 1.9L I 4 TC OHV Gas EFI engine. The car has
110,000 miles on it and the dealer quoted $1,100 to replace the timing belt. I do all the mechanical
work on my cars and have replaced several timing belts. I took a quick look at her car and it looks
like I might have my work cut out for me. I noticed the engine mount in the way and read on other
sites mention of dropping or lifting the engine to replace the belt. My question is has anyone done this
replacement in a driveway without special tools? Any advise on making it go easier? Any suggestion on
prices for having an independant shop replace it? Help!!!!

You might consider...

Before I got the timing belt changed on my S40 (@ 105K), I called around to several places to get quotes on this. Through the phone book, I found someone local who had a shop in his backyard. He let me purchase a timing belt online (>$50) and the assembly (>$100). He charged me $65/hour for 3 hours labor. The whole thing cost under $350.

Thanks for the info Kimela, that might be the way to go. But I would still like to here from anyone
who replaced the belt themselves.

I work in a shop but overall it is pretty easy.

You can support the engine with a Jack then remove the engine mount.
Best to jack up the front and put on Jack stands.
Then remove the R/F tire.

Go to alldata.com. They show you all the process of taking engine apart and is only $28 subscription for one year.
