Unhappy Help!! Transmission Problems!!

Hi Everyone,

I just bought an '04 S40 t5 about a month ago. Today I experienced some issues with my transmission. I was parking at Wal-Mart and as I put the car in (P) Park and let go of the brakes, it started rolling backwards as if it's in (R) Reverse. So I immediately hit the brakes, put on the E-Brake and turned it off.

Then after that, I put the ignition on and tried to tap the shifter thinking it may have been stuck. That didn't work. The instrument panel reads that the car is in (D) Drive, but the shifter is all the way at the (P) Park position. I have no idea what to do.

I tried taking out the battery hoping to reset the car's computer but that didn't work.

Any Ideas anyone? Before I have to call a tow truck.

Thanks

Okay I have an update:

What happened was my gear shift cable broke, therefore I could not shift back to Neutral, Reverse, all the way back to park, I was pretty much stuck in drive but my brother checked it out and noticed the cable had broke a spring that allows the driver to shift gears back and forth. So i think I got it from here

Thanks

That is the first time I've heard of this problem on these cars. It happened on my Dodge Daytona manual tranny when the clip that attached to the transmission mechanism broke.
