V70 Transmission Problems HELP!
I am a new member-I drive an automatic V70year 2000 and it is driving me crazy! In the last 3 months, I have spent a fortune (£1600, of which £600 was to a Volvo dealer) trying to get it sorted , to no avail. My transmission runs fine cold but as soon as the car heats up, as I take off from traffic lights with the accelerator depressed, the car hovers in neutral and then all of a sudden with a tremendous thump, the gears engage and I move forward. The TRANSMISSION SERVICE light somes on as does the engine light and the catalytic converter light. It is off th eroafd just now and th epresent garage that has it thinks that the gearbox needs a look! How come it drives fine when cold? Surely the gearbox problem won't be intermittent? I have lost faith in the car and don't feel safe in it. Any advice gratefully received!
Please note that I'm not privy to the V70 series and my suggestions are wild-guesses. Please wait until V70 drivers or other members/moderators kick in.
I just checked the recalls for V70 U.K market version and no recalls have been issued for the transmission.

I can only suspect the malfunction may be due to low or overfilled transmission fluid, wrong type of fluid has been introduced in the system, transmission fluid temp sensor malfunction (if so equipped), faulty solenoids, or the electronic control module (computer) for transmission control related troubles.
What did the garages, including the dealer tell you? Did they tell you whether there were trouble codes in the engine & transmission computers? The first place we usually start looking is possible trouble codes in the computers.
Next time when you visit a shop, be sure to tell them to check for trouble codes in the ECMs (Electronic Control Module; the computers).
Sorry I couldn't help you better.

Thanks for your advice. So far, where can I check the Transmission oil? A gear box specialist said that the solenoid was sticking as the car get warm. Does this mean that I need a new gear box?
