Smile Hi....deciding on a 2004.5 volvo s40 t5

Hi,

Currently i am close to pulling the trigger on a 2004.5 (gen 2) volvo s40 t5 with 54000 miles on it (Single owner). Dealer wants around 11.5k for it.

My main issue is reliability. I absolutely loved the car and have been wanting to get once since i drove a s40 (from enterprise) last year on a 2000mile long road trip.

I can afford the regular maintainance, but am a little scared of repair bills.
thank you all in advance.

PS - i have already done a forum search, just to let you all know that i am not here to waste your time

I have a 2004.5 S40 T5. I love it. The repair bills haven't been outrageous. A lot of the issues I had were fixed under warranty. I will be honest though... I was just quoted around $1000-1200 to replace my front struts today. Hence, my journey to the Volvo forums to put up a post of my own asking for part recommendations when I saw yours and decided to respond. Overall, I've probably invested around $4000-5000 in repairs in 6 years. That's really not much. Granted, it's usually been in $1000-1500 increments, so be prepared for sticker shock on quotes. I found a guy that specializes in Volvos, and have stopped going to the dealership since my warranty ended. I also invested in a lifetime alignment package since I seem to lose a few degrees on alignment regularly. If you can afford the regular maintenance, I wouldn't let the repair bills scare you too much. They are GREAT cars, and I will likely keep this one and get a second vehicle at some point.

Thank you for the reply. I can afford the maintainance and upkeep, but still am a little skeptical because this will be my first car after graduation. But your post still gives me a little peace of mind. Hope u find a fix for your car.
Regards,
Anirudh
