Went to the car today & with all the new year celebrations and fireworks going off, it's set the alarm off a few times and now the battery is dead! went to pull the hood release and the cablejust snapped it just pulled all the way out! is there another way to open it? need to get this sorted so's i can get to work in the morning

 

I think it is going to be a pain to get the hood open.
You will have to look through the grill really good and see if you can see the hood latch.
Maybe you can sneak something in there and release the latch.

Or maybe from under the car.

 

Thanks tried that, no joy! tried pulling the grill out to get to it, but doesn't seem like i can do that from the outside without breaking it! which i think i might have to do.

 

Try looking really good at an angle at the grill. There is slide clips that can sometimes be slid off with an Angle pick. Then the grill will slide out.

I have never had to open an S40 like that as of yet so thats about all I can offer.

The entire cable slid out of the sleeve?

Or did it just break by the handle?

 

It got pulled once then went slack, so i just pulled it all the way out! the other end was completely rusted where the cable had snapped.
My g/f called someone out, so i'm gonna leave the grill for now & it's wet,cold & windy out, so somebody else can freeze for a change.

is your car still covered under warrenty?

 

According to his Sig it is a 1998 and would not be under Warranty.

 

Well the guy finally turned up & removed the locking mechanism through the grill (3 bolts incase anyone needs to do this) with an extension & a 10mm socket, the grill itself is screwed on from the other side, so i would've had to break it! feel dumb now, but atleast everything is working except for the latch, so i'll have to pick up a new cable and get it fixed!
