Default Identify air hose to replace.

Hi all,

I had some big issues with the engine going dead when engine was hot and stopped at traffic light, no power when accelerating, engine difficult to start when engine was cold. So the volvo garage cleaned the fuel system and choke, had to replace fuel pump, new lambda sonde and still same issue. So After that I had enough of my original volvo garage with their bad diagnose and ripping me off all the time and started to clean the MAF sensor my self, replaced battery etc and checking every air hose on my car. And suddenly I found the issue. Spend nearly $1000 at the garage only to find out that an airhose was snapped. I know that that was the issue because I have taped it now so that o false air is getting into the engine and the car runs perfect. But since I have an issue with the volvo garage I can''t go there to ask for item number to replace the airhose. Can anybody identify the air hose and tell the original volvo part number so that I can buy it at ebay or so?

See image.

This is a volvo S40 2.0T from 2002

Thanks.

Thanks.

I tought many people know a lot of volvo's here but it seems not so.
Anyway, A friend told me what that exactly is, so let me contribute since nobody else know what that is.

That is the Fuel Injection Idle Air Control Valve Hose.
For the volvo S40 2.0T engines part number 30637166

It seems that those snap frequently. it sits right below your MAP sensor. So if you have rough idle, engine dead at traffic light, missing power when accelerating, cold engine start goes difficult, first thing to check is for false air. Good luck. I hope this really saves a lot people money and time.

I am with you on responses and help on this forum.... At the same time, I can't remember a car that I have had to work on more than this one, maybe everyone is in the garage under their cars....

I think you are slightly mistaken. The hose is sitting below the IAC (idle air control) valve. The green gasket is the gasket for the IAC that someone has removed. Not sure what you mean by SNAP. One end of that hose is attached below the IAC and really has nothing to do with the IAC. the other end is attached to the inter-cooler. The hose looks like it is formed to fit, but it also looks like any ole 1/2" or 3/4" heater hose would work fine, just get some new clamps too.

I believe you mean MAF.... Mass Air Flow sensor. It is part of the intake piping, located up closer to the brake booster on the drivers side of the engine.

Sorry I don't know the name of the hose.

It's a common problem. Mine too snapped in half. They get really brittle for some reason. I've read of others having the same issue too. The hose is available at the local parts houses as well as online. It is a formed hose with one end bigger than the other. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier.
