Default Info Computer compatible with any Volvo?

Hey guys...

just wondering my S40 did not come with the trip Info computer switch in the center console. (The one where you turn the **** switch to get different displays such as Average miles driven etc.). Can I buy one off of ebay and put it in? Does anyone know whether there is a harness for this on non-equipped S40s? Any modifications that needs to be done? Any walkthroughs on this topic at all?
Thanks

mob

Hi mob,

Yeah, mine doesn't have one either. BUT, for less than $500 (?), you can order a new turn signal stalk and computer interface. Unfortunately, to install the computer you have to remove the steering wheel, according to my parts guy. Here's the schematic:

Sorry for the small pic.

Even if you can do the parts swap, you still have to go to the dealer so that they can link the trip computer to the car's computer. It's do-able, but just little time consuming.

There are a couple of threads either on this board or on another one that address this issue. What year is your car? Some years are easier to retro-fit.

I have an 08 S40 2.4i. I just got news from my dealer that adding a trip computer (I already have the stalk) would only cost $160. That can't be right, can it?

I think that sounds about right.

Hmmm....I think I'm going to do it then. It shouldn't ruin anything, should it? I don't want to get the car back with interior scratches, rattles, etc....

For what it's worth, I just had the trip computer added to my 2008 S40 through software at my local Volvo dealership. They charged me 80 bucks total and I was in and out in 20 minutes. My car already had the correct "stalk" so they just updated the software.
