Default Inner Sway bar bushing replacement

Has anyone changed the inner sway bar bushings on a 04 1.9L? I can't figure out how to get to them?

I believe I used a short 1/4" drive ratchet with a deep well 10 mm socket. Any similar combo that allows you to reach over the bushing but does not stick up too high and hit the bottom of the body. You will only get a click or two on the bolt so patience is key. When replacing be careful not to cross-thread the bolt. I boogered mine but good on the passenger side. Went in at an angle but is still holding.

Was that for the P1, Hudini? I don't think there is a way to do them on the 1.9L without lowering the subframe.

It was on my 2001. It was a PITA but I did both sides. Lowering the subframe might have been easier, I don't know as I've never tried that. Just a tiny bit more room would make a big difference though.

Let us know how it goes. Sure would be nice if there were an easier way.

Frustrating! I can see the bolt head and touch it, just need another 1/4" of space and i could get a socket on it! ARRGG!

Its been a while since I did one of these but I ended up lowering the subframe. I had access to a lift and was able to use a pogo jack to support the subframe as it lowered. Took less than a minute and gave full access to the sway bar.
