Instrument's lights on 2000 s40
I have a 2000 s40 and the instruments lights are not working on the temperature, and air control ****. It's very difficult to find the setting when driving at night. The dealer estimate was around $250.00 which will include changing all 3 bulbs inside. I just can't justify paying that much money for a burn out bulb. Does anybody know or has someone experience changing the bulbs yourself. I consider myself mechanically inclined but would like to know where to begin. Any thought or help is greatly appreciated.
Can you elaborate a little. Is this a reasonable DIY project ? I have the same problem with the climate control bulbs.
sure u can diy it, most do, but it is kinda in depth for some.
for the gauge lights:
Remove two bolts from the steering column mounting and lower column.
-Remove two self-tapping screws from trim edge and press edge downwards out of clips.
-Remove three self-tapping screws which hold combined instrument panel and remove it (connectors and cable are behind in dashboard).
Pull first straight outwards.
for the climate:
Make a note of the radio code
-Switch off the ignition
-Disconnect the battery ground lead
-Remove the radio
-Disconnect the connectors
-Remove the storage compartment in the centre console.
Removing the front panel
-1: Press up the catches behind the holes in the front panel
-2: At the same time pull the lower section of the panel towards you. (Use a weatherstrip tool.)
-3: Press the whole panel upwards slightly. Pull it towards you from the top. (The controls remain on the heater control panel.).
Removing the control module
-Remove the 3 screws
-Disconnect the connectors
-Removing the control panel.
