Has anybody experienced this? Sometimes, when I crank up the car and turn on the AC, it just blows hot air. Now usually I can either turn the car off and restart, or just switch the AC completely off and then on again and it's fine. But sometimes I have to do one or the other more than once to get it to work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Intermittent A/C is usually the compressor clutch in need of reshimming. The normal scenario is a bit different than you describe though. Usually the A/C works great at first then blows warm air for a while then back to cold. It will keep doing this hot/cold cycle.

Once yours starts working correctly does it stay cold?

 

Yes, once it's cold it continues to blow cold. I can literally drive all day as long as I don't switch the car off or the AC off, and it's fine.
