Default Intermittent blower failure - what to try next?

The blower motor on my 2003 S40 was working intermittently, but now has stopped. I got it working once by banging on the dash, but now that doesn't work. I replaced the blower motor resistor (with a new one) and the CCU (from a wreck, but they said it worked) and still nothing. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. The controls on CCU all seem to work (lights, clicking when I turn things on and off, etc). The fan doesn't work at any speed or on automatic. I'm at a loss as to what to try next. I figure it must be a short somewhere, but how to find?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

Based on a tip in this forum, I start checking the wires by the fan motor itself. I wiggled the wires going into the fan itself and it started up. That's cool, but does that mean I need a new blower or can I open it up and fix the short myself?

Fix it yourself!

It's already broke, what have you got to lose?
