k&n filters on an S40
A quick question for the experienced, I am thinking about buying a k&n direct replacement air filter or maybe even a k&n cold air kit for a 2000 S40 1.9L turbo. Since reading this forum, it seems like the ECM is somewhat tempermental, such as certain plugs work and don't work, and when the car coughs, the check engine light goes on, things like that. I'm not doing anything else to enhance performance, I just saw that the k&n filter is about the same price as 2 or 3 of the stock filters and don't need changed as often. Then I saw a cold air kit is only a little bit more. Have you seen any problems or benefits with these?
I'm new to Volvo's, but have had a 1.8T in the past on a VW. As far as I know, an intake won't give you much of a problem as long as you have all your sensors connected correctly. Any ECM will get pissy if it thinks you're not getting enough oxygen. If you go with an intake, just be sure to connect everyting securely.
