K&N air filters?

RE: K&N air filters?
Why do you want an after market air cleaner vs the "normal"? If you feel that your auto will be faster, you are throwing your money away! Simply putting in an after market air cleaner and making no other changes is not going to give you a good 'pay back' for the money spent.

RE: K&N air filters?
I was asking tom 1568 if he was looking for performance........not fuel mileage. My caution was that so many enthusiasts feel that just a simple change of an expensive air filter is going to give them a considerable boost in horse power and that they will now be able to beat an M-3 off the line..............and that simply is not going to occur!

RE: K&N air filters?
thank you for your comments, im not looking for the one super mod to make my car fast, i have used k&n on all my rigs, im just a new volvo owner and im interested in making my car breath easier and also purchasing the last filter i will need for this car, im not into buying a new air filter every other oil change @ 7.99 when i could buy one and be done with it. as for increase in power yes most cars do see the diff. and respond better along with improved mileage. all i was asking to these members was for some help as to finding the cheapest place to buy. thank you all so much and im really enjoying this site, great members and helpful hints.
thanks

RE: K&N air filters?
i have a 96 850 glt wagon, and thru autozone, a factory replacement filter (i would love to get the cold-air intake kit, as showin in that pic above, however, i have never found one for my engine, as it is not a turbo), for 49.99.
i love k&n air filters for just what tom said, the lifetime of the filter itself. its cleanable/reusable, instead of replacing all the time.

RE: K&N air filters?
What modifications did you have to make to put the K&N filter and the "red" tube on?
Did your car have an original air intake that had some type of "heating" capability to the air coming in? (Stock air intakes usually have some type of heating tube that comes up from the exhaust manifold to warm the air intake to help warm the engine initially)
What impact on the stock engine and environmental controls does the "cold" air intake have?
Is there a noticable difference in engine warmup time with the current setup vs stock air filter "rig"?

RE: K&N air filters?
My car is a speed density system. Remeber my car is a mustang!!
My stock setup had no other lines or anything like that on it. It was very easy to install just slide the tube with the rubber ends on and tighten clamps.
It is noticable on all driving. Cold start up is Awesome. when the car warms up you can feel the loss of power from when it was totally cold.
The newer cars have alot more stuff. Thats why the proper parts are pretty hard to find. I like just making them myself.
If I had the proper tools I would make alot of stuff myself instead of buying.
