Our 2005 S40 T5 , which is being used very little is now 16 years old , I never get into the back seat , but have washed it many times and never took notice of this sticker that states that you need to replace all the SRS systems or have it
serviced , When I enquired at our dealer they do not service them as if they are faulty a fault code comes up. but suggested to replace them as per Volvo instruction. .
I was not surprised by the quote around 20x the value of the vehicle , why did they even bother
But on more serious note do these air bags expire at some point , they are an explosive devise so perhaps after 15-20 years not guaranteed to go off ?
I think that's right. I don't know if they have a real lifespan, but I don't think the light tells you all that much. The fault light is just looking to see if the resistance in the detonator is correct. If that goes open or shorted, that's easy to detect and that's what the light is looking for.
SIPS stuff was never really replaceable. You'd have to reupholster the car.
